2007 is nearly here
What traditions do you have for New Year's Eve?
When I was younger, my sister and I would visit Mare (my grandmother), tolerate Guy Lombardo and his orchestra... first in black and white and then COLOR TV, toasting in the new year with ginger ale in modified maguerita glasses as the ball came down.
Another year I made it to Times Square..... well, I made it INTO Times Square at about 12:02am because I had been delayed in the subway.... it was still mobbed and loud and a bit scary.
In New York City the Cathedral of St. John the Divine has a Eucharist on New Year's Eve - a eucharist of peace.
You probably can't make it to that particular cathedral - but perhaps you are near one...... or near a church... that celebrates a Eucharist to bring in the new year with prayer. Just a suggestion, of course.
Even if you can't - or would rather not - go out elsewhere or be on the roads with drivers who should not be behind the wheel.... you can say a prayer at home.
Remember your loved ones - here and of memory; remember the people in your everyday world; remember those who will spend this (and other) night(s) caring for others; pray for the truckers on the road; pray for those at sea and those in the military stationed all over the world; pray for our church - and the houses of faiths the world over; pray for the nations of the world - and our country's participation in the scheme of things; pray for political leaders and political prisoners alike.
Make a new year's resolution to PRAY. That may take as much discipline as staying on a diet or exercise regime.... and just as important. And you WILL have time for it. If you can curse, you can pray!!
I will hold you wonderful people in my prayers this new year's eve - along with the founder, board and contributors to The Geranium Farm. You are all wonderful marvels of God's talent and grace. Blessed be.
