A Very Proper Church dog

Gwen Chambrun came across a few things last week and sent them to me. Here is her message:

I found this on a site about Welsh hymn writer Ann Griffiths:

Religious upbringing: Ann received a religious upbringing. Her father was a conscientious member of the Anglican Church, the established church in Wales at that time, and he regularly attended the services at Llanfihangel parish church. An indication of the regularity of Ann's father's attendance at church over an extended period is to be found in the story of an old sheepdog at Dolwar Fach. The dog would follow his master to church every Sunday morning and lie quietly under his pew until the service ended; indeed, it is said that attending church had become such a habit for the dog that he would go regularly every Sunday, even when no members of the Dolwar family were present!

Now THAT is a dog who knows his TRUE Master! Praise ye the Lord, ye creatures of His - in beauty and bark, Praise the name of the Lord and magnify it forever!

Thanks for that piece of humour and dedication, Gwen! DJ

Our truest 'Valentine'

Remember when Valentine's Day was SAINT Valentine's Day? I'm also (as a child of the initial TV generation) reminded of the days when Mr. Telly Savalas, bald head, lollipop and all on the series Kojac stared in the camera and asked "Who loves ya', baby?". This reminder pass-along is from Sheri Jones.... thanks for the reminder, Sheri!

Happy Valentine's Day

For God so loved the world,
even before he made it
that he saved it.
The Father, Son and Spirit
loved the world into existence
hugged the world to shake our resistance
touched the world to bring our repentance
For God so loved the world
that he put us in the mix
not just to have something to fix
but so that we, thinking that we're the center
might instead be eclipsed by his love.

p.s. in the Roman Catholic and Episcopal calendars, we also remember Cyril and Methodius, special saints to the Slavic peoples. Each was a monk; Cyril was a Deacon and Methodius lived long enough to be ordained a Bishop. To read more about these and other saints, this site is often helpful:

Bible Resource

I came across this website the other day.... found it helpful in locating phases in the Bible (in MANY different translations).

Hope it comes in handy for you! DJ
